
Sustainability Reporting & Climate Policy Officer

Position Overview
This is a critical role within the Global Sustainability team, responsible for supporting State Street’s:
Sustainability Reporting Program (both regulatory and voluntary);
Climate Policy development and implementation; and
Internal sustainability initiatives.
Working closely with Finance and other functions, this role will help to design, shape and lead the program as sustainability reporting moves from voluntary standards to mandatory.
Key Responsibilities
Overall
Actively collaborate and facilitate discussions with different departments such as sustainability, finance, data, regulatory affairs, product, and business teams as well as external partners
Support internal stakeholders – such as Data, Product, Risk, and Realty teams – on ad hoc projects that require coordinated delivery of policies, procedures, and disclosures.
Monitor global and regional sustainability/climate policy related developments, including regulatory changes, industry standards, and best practices. Advise Sustainability team on emerging trends and strategic priorities.
Provide insights on best practices for regulatory and voluntary sustainability reporting.
Contribute to development of internal processes and data management frameworks.
Act with urgency to ensure plans remain on course and issues are effectively communicated.
Ensure the highest standard of documentation is maintained to meet the requirement of internal and external auditors / assurance providers.
Sustainability Reporting
Support coordination and execution of sustainability reporting initiatives ensuring assigned tasks are managed and delivered timely to a high standard.
Act as a liaison with senior management, project teams and other internal and external stakeholders on sustainability reporting related topics.
Conduct assigned research and gap analysis to support the development of plans to comply with the identified regulation, guidance or best practice.
Support sustainability reporting work – for example organize and conduct workshops with various internal functions to collect relevant information, analyze provided documentation and document the results.
Climate Policy
Assist with climate-related governance, including preparing materials for Sustainability committees and other oversight groups.
Support coordination of responses to climate-related regulatory requests, in particular in the EU.
Provide input on methodology development and measurement of climate metrics, in particular financed emissions.
Skills and QualificationsEssential:
Bachelors degree in sustainability, environmental policy, finance, economics, or related filed.
2+ years in sustainability, regulatory compliance, reporting (preferably in financial services, consulting and/or ESG/climate focused), or a related field.
Understanding of climate reporting frameworks is essential (e.g., ISSB, TCFD, SEC Climate Disclosure Rule, TNFD).
Strong data management and analysis skills.
Excellent verbal/written and interpersonal skills.
Self-starter with ability to manage competing priorities with a strong awareness and mitigation of risk.
Desirable:
Sustainability/ESG-related experience (e.g. working knowledge of climate policy developments. affecting financial institutions and/or ESG/Climate reporting experience).
Knowledge of the emerging global sustainability/ESG regulatory landscape (e.g. CSDDD, EU Taxonomy).
Familiarity with GHG accounting methodologies such as PCAF and GHG Protocol.
Experience in financial services.
